Attosecond physics – where does it stand and what is coming?

It is always helpful but often not at all easy to summarize the current state of a large field of research. It is even more difficult to predict where the journey may yet lead. Last year, the prestigious Wolf Prize was awarded to three pioneers of attosecond physics, and the three gave an interview to Nature Photonics that is well worth reading, including, of course, the future of attosecond physics. This August, a Nobel symposium was also held, which also dealt with attosecond physics. The program for that alone and the lecture titles are interesting to look at. One thing is clear: attosecond physics continues to have a bright future.
