For more than ten years, we and other research groups worldwide have been working on strong-field physics on solids – which until now could only ever be observed on nanometre-sharp needle tips. In terms of the driving optical wavelength, these tips are zero-dimensional objects. We wondered if we could also observe similar physics on a one-dimensional object — the answer is yes and published in this paper: Paschen and colleagues, ACS Photonics. A nice international collaboration with colleagues from UCLA in Los Angeles and from the University of Rostock. Our work could become of interest for future ultrafast electron sources and electron-light coupling experiments.
