The entire 1st Mathieu stability region was measured experimentally and simulated numerically for the first time in auto-ponderomotive structures. Similar to radio-frequency-driven Paul mass filters, electrons can be guided using planar electrode layouts, opening up new possibilities for the realization of electron-optical elements such as beam splitters and resonators for electrons.
