Dr. Daniel Lesko has been awarded the Gapontsev Prize for Innovations in Fiber Lasers, recognizing his work in developing high-power few-cycle fiber frequency combs, with a $20,000 stipend endowed generously by VPG Foundation and Optica Foundation. This prize is named in honor of Dr. Valentin Gapontsev, the founder of IPG Photonics, who pioneered the development of high-power fiber lasers. Daniel’s research has focused on advancing the field of attosecond and strong-field physics enabled by unique fiber frequency comb technology that he developed during his PhD. His new technique, to generate high-power, few-cycle pulses using erbium fiber frequency combs, has enabled new experimental advances and applications to probe matter and free electrons on ultrafast timescales, opening new frontiers in attosecond dynamics. With this prize, Daniel will be able to pursue new and cutting-edge optical frequency comb-based techniques for probing transient states in condensed matter systems.

Congratulations!
